Book Week 2019

Book Week 2019

You may have noticed some supernatural activity around Como Primary this week, but there is no need to be alarmed. We've just been celebrating Book Week and the theme for this year was 'Reading is my Superpower'.

The highlight of the week was our annual dress up day, where our school became a super hero academy full of super heroes and children dressed to display their amazing super powers! It was wonderful to see so many children (and staff) in costume. Our wonderful parents at Como Cookout got on the action too! The day culminated in a buddy time celebration of superhero mask making.

On Tuesday, some of our upper primary classes (Rooms 3, 4 and 9) were given the opportunity to visit the South Perth Library for an Artist in Residence Workshop with author Cristy Burne. These workshops give local schools the opportunity to work with WA authors. The children had a fantastic time learning about how articles in the news (particularly about scientific discoveries) give Cristy ideas for her writing. We thank the South Perth Library for organising such fabulous activities for our children. Some of our lower primary children will also have the opportunity to visit the library later this week.

Finally, on Friday this week we have a whole school incursion, called 'Big Dreams'. This Book Week themed production promises to be quite entertaining, and we're looking forward to learning more about the picture books that were shortlisted this year!
